Standing at 300 meters tall, it was the tallest building in the world for over 40 years from its construction until 1930, when New York's Chrysler Building surpassed it. It was built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair. In summer, the tower is 18 centimeters taller than in winter due to the thermal expansion of the metal.
